August Home Checklist
It’s already August! This month may feel like a sudden downshift but finding a way to stretch out the last weeks of summer is key. As the school year starts, set aside some time to make sure your home is ready for the transition into Fall.
Here are some things to check off your to do list in August:
Set up a shared family calendar
With the start of a busy year, the best thing to make sure you have is a “command center” for all your family's needs and commitments. Create a family calendar to put appointments, practice times, and important dates up so that everyone is in the loop.
Clear up the kitchen
Make your dinners go smoother by cleaning out items in your kitchen. Throw out any expired, stale or unwanted food from your pantry and fridge. This will make dinner prep simpler and faster. Set aside unwanted items that are not expired and not opened and donate them to local charities.
Organize family photos
Summer means lots of memories and lots of photos! Make sure you back them all up by uploading them into a digital drive to keep them safe. If you want, choose a couple of favorites to print out and display in your home!
Get organized for back to school and work
Set aside time to make sure your home is ready for back to school. This means cleaning up your family's workspaces and making sure everyone has a study area to work at. Make a list of any items that would make your year run smoother like storage bins, coat hooks or even a filing system to handle your family’s papers.
Organize your closet before going back to school shopping
Go through your closet and donate any items that don't fit or are unwanted. Then make a list of items that you need to buy. This will save you time and money when going back to school shopping since you'll have a list of all your necessities.
Clean and organize the garage
Now is a great time to clean out the garage and get it ready for the fall. Over the summer, sand and dirt can build up, clean out any built up sand and dirt, throw away broken toys, and reorganize for the fall. You can even plan to shop at the end of summer sales to stock up on items for next summer.
Finish up August projects
Take a weekend and finish any unfinished projects from the summer. Whether it be landscaping or cleaning the gutters or even adding a new deck, the end of summer is a perfect time to make sure your home is prepared for the fall.
Check your home for any signs of pests
Now is also a good time to check your property for signs of pests you may need to take care of. Being proactive is key in situations like this as it's harder to fix it once it's out of hand. Take preventative measures such as removing possible food sources and closing off possible places for them to enter and hide.
Clean vehicle interiors
Clean up any loose papers, trash and items that don't belong in it. Vacuum it out to give it that extra clean feeling. You can also go get a checkup to make sure your tires, engine, and oil are working properly.
Choose a couple of these tasks and you'll have your home ready for the transition into the Fall in no time. Happy back to school!
