The Space Coast is the perfect place to celebrate the 4th of July. Here we have boating on the rivers, great food and of course the beach! Everything you need to have a great independence weekend. If fireworks aren't your vibe or you're looking for something to do during the day, the Space Coast has so many events going on this upcoming weekend.
Here's a list of activities that will make your 4th of July memorable:
The city of Rockledge is holding their 35th annual Independence day Picnic on July 4th at McLarty Park. This picnic will take place from 10AM to 2PM and has games, music and food for the whole family. Purchase a hamburger or hot dog, chips and a drink for just $1.00!
Food Truck Event
If you’re looking to try great food but can’t decide where to start, consider this a sign. The Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Food Truck event at Wickham Park! This event will take place Friday July 1st from 5 - 9PM and will have great food, live music and inflatables for kids.
Many kayaking tours in the Space Coast offer kayaking at night. And the best part is July is right in the middle of the bioluminescence season! Throughout your tour you can see a magical glow of bright blues and greens in the water. this is called bioluminescence which is caused by light emissions from little fishes and organisms.
Here are three kayaking tours that offer this nighttime tour:
- Fin Expedition
- Calypso Kayaking
- Cocoa kayaking
Boat Charter or Rental
Another great activity for the family is to rent a boat on the Indian River. This is the perfect thing to do on a hot holiday weekend. Choose between a charter with a provided captain or go for a rental and drive it yourself! You’ll be able to see dolphins and manatees while sailing around and enjoying the water.
But the most important question of the weekend remains: Where should you and your family watch the fireworks? Here are a couple options for events going on in the area:
First is the Brevard Symphony Orchestra's free 4th of July Concert. Located at Cocoa Riverfront Park, The event has doors opening at 6:30PM for those who purchase tickets for the BBQ. This ticket includes: dinner, dessert, reserved parking, & reserved VIP concert seating! Tickets are $60 for BSO subscribers and $75 for non-subscribers. At 8PM doors will open for those without a ticket to enjoy with fireworks starting at 9:15 PM and food will be available for purchase. . Bring a lawn chair and a blanket!
Skies above Port Canaveral will light up with color and sound on July 2nd for the annual “Smoke on the Water & Fire in the Sky” fireworks celebration being hosted by the Cove Merchants Association at Port Canaveral and the Canaveral Port Authority. The event at Port Canaveral is the first of three area fireworks celebrations that are the hallmark of the Space Coast’s Independence Day events - July 3rd fireworks at Cocoa Beach's Fischer Park Beach, followed by July 4th fireworks at Cocoa Village.
The City of Melbourne is also hosting a 4th of July celebration. This yearly event titled “MelBOOM” has food trucks to purchase from, a skydiving show at 8:10 PM and a fireworks display at 9PM. This event is located at Front Street Park and is free.
Another great location for watching fireworks is on the beautiful and historical property of Green Gables. Bring lawn chairs to watch the fireworks over the Indian river. There will be food booths, music and games. Tickets online are only $10 per car which provides wristbands for everyone, and $15 at the door. You can even choose to tour the Green Gables house and property for $10 per person until dusk.
